Confucius is contributed with saying "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."   That job for me was discovered in 1986 during my first Principles of Accounting course as a Junior in a small town West Virginia high school.  I absolutely fell in love with accounting after one week of learning the basics of debits, credits, assets, liabilities, equity, etc., and I have always enjoyed every position I've held in both public and corporate accounting.

As mentioned, I did grow up in West Virginia along the banks of the Ohio River.  In addition to falling in love with accounting in my youth, I also grew up with a passion for sports and music, which led me to attend West Virginia University and march in the "Pride of West Virginia" Mountaineer Marching Band for four years.   After earning my Bachelor's degree, I worked for a local CPA firm in Ohio for 3 years before deciding to pursue my Masters of Accountancy from The University of Tennessee Knoxville.

For the last 25+ years since graduation from UTK, I've worked in public accounting for another 3-4 years.  I then transitioned into corporate accounting and worked in the broadcast radio and publishing industries in the District of Columbia, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, and Tennessee.  

I've been a resident of Shelbyville, Tennessee since late 2012 when I moved here to marry the love of my life, and despite a fulfilling and rewarding career, I've always enjoyed helping friends, family, and others with bookkeeping, tax, or other business questions.  This love and the rich history of Shelbyville prompted me to start Pencil City Bookkeeping right here in Pencil City, USA.
